Sometimes you meet the coolest people in the most unlikely places when you least expect it.  My sister Tanya and I were driving along the other day when I spotted a man painting out in the middle of a field.  Needless to say, I turned the car around and went back to check it out.

After wading through the weeds in a ditch, then climbing a slight embankment, all done in flip flops, while visions of poisonous snakes danced in my head, (poor Sis, but she was a trooper!), we made our way across the field and met the artist.  Small world because he knows my friends, Brian and Michelle, owners of Whole:Mind Body Art.  We also met a cute cable guy, who also stopped and made his way across the field to join us and check out the scene…  :-)   He said he was checking out the flowers in the field because they reminded him of the flowers back home (somewhere up North), but Sis and I were looking kinda hot that day so if he wants to refer to us as flowers….. I’m just saying. ;-)

The moral of the story is:  You never know who you might meet in the middle of a field if you decide to take a time out and be adventurous!  Robert Clements work is featured at Aurum Studios, 125 E Clayton St., Athen,Ga. through May 31.

There is technically proficient “good” art, and then there is ART that sizzles and makes me wanna dance and go “Oh yeeeeeah!”

And I  found it Sunday afternoon when I attended a combo art and music show/animal benefit that was hosted by a really unusual and personable artist and his lovely wife.  He is known as Cap Man.  When I say he is unusual, I mean unusual in a good way.  He is not your run of the mill artist who is good with the paint brush and does up a nice and “pretty” painting that looks similar to most other paintings hanging behind sofas in paint by numbers art filled homes.  This dude is an original who oozes creativity.  Let me repeat that:  he has originality with a giant “O”.   Yes, I mean orgasmic creativity.  He also had other really creative artists at the show, so be sure to check out the pics at the end of the blog post.

The location of the show was at Mr. and Mrs. Cap Man’s home and studio over in Winterville, Ga., or more specifically in their lush backyard.  There was a band playing on the back deck, several artist displaying their works, an edible landscaping display (and I loved that so much that I will post pics of it later in a separate post!), dogs and kids and coffee…. And from reading Facebook posts, I know at least one dog found a new home via the show, and if my memory serves me correctly her name was Daisy.  As far as I know the new home is not in the rv that Cap Man decorated with bottle caps, although I have to admit the RV was cute (and not a heckuva lot larger than a doghouse). As I am typing this, I am sitting here thinking that between the truck decorated in bottle caps and the RV decorated in bottle caps, that the Cap Man has a very tolerant Mrs. Cap Man.  :-)   All Artist should be so fortunate!  Check out his work at:  WWW.Capman.us

I am soooo excited about my raised garden beds that I got from Jason of “About An Acre”!  I have already arranged and rearranged them about a gazillion times.  Who knows how their final resting place will look, but here is a pic of the latest design. And I’m already cooking up some cool ideas for creative fencing to protect my stash of veggies.

In cleaning out my boxes of * junk* I’ve been hauling around for years, I ran across this poem I wrote many moons ago while taking a creative writing class through the University of Alabama.  The writing Prof. loved it and praised the sexual imagery  *gasp* and gave me an “A +” so I was pretty happy, especially since the sexual imagery was really just some sort of Freudian slipperoo accident!   Roll Tide!

Half  Baked Naked Woman

I sit by the pool and watch

a bug float round and round,

a shadowy blob on the bottom

of the pool, a miniature monster

at war with itself.

.

The neighbor’s black Lab barks and barks

at squirrels and birds and me

in my pink and yellow bikini as

I lather my too brown skin

with coconut oil.

.

A bicycle riding young boy

turns his red head to stare,

nose wrinkling as if he’s never seen

a half baked naked woman

slipping and sliding.

.

He probably hasn’t since mothers

aren’t women, they’re mothers.

But then, I realize he’s just

staring at the pool and probably

wishing I’d go away.

.

He’s probably thinking he’d like to

take a quick dip in the beckoning blue

water, if only that old lady would

disappear he’d climb the chain link

fence and hop in.

.

I smile and wave, and the boy nods

and not so discreetly rolls his blue eyes

and rides off without a backwards

glance.  His legs pump up and down,

pump up and down.

.

The snotty nosed brat is gone and

the neighbor’s dog sniffs the air and

barks and barks and rolls over in the

dirt splashing and playing and snapping

at black fleas.

.

The bug sinks to the bottom of the pool,

dead.  I smile at the dog and smile at

the bug, then hop in to fetch it and

carry it to the goofy black lab as

a friendly treat.

The other day I went out to a cool newbie farm to pick up some raised garden beds. The farm is owned by Jason and Sandi and is located a few miles west of Commerce. I arrived about 15 minutes after the birth of a four-legged baby. Jason, a newbie organic farmer, was super proud of baby, (I’m pretty sure he would’ve been passing out cigars if he’d had some!), and he took me inside the pen to get a close up look at the cute little fella.

Mama goat was very nice and well behaved, so I got to pet baby (and note his back half was smeared with something that coulda been goat poop, but I was hoping and pretending and also praying was mud. I like goats. Goat poop, not so much). Anyway, me being me, I immediately wanted me a goat. Unfortunately, my backwards, behind the times subdivision covenants, prohibits them. Same reason I can’t have a coupla chickens. :-( My thinking is this: not only are goats cute, they eat grass. Everyone who really knows me, knows I hate cutting grass, so I’m thinking bye bye lawnmower. Oh, the bliss of that!). Someone come buy my house so I can find myself a tiny shack on an acre or two and start myself a hippie farm.:-)

Jason told me they plan a canning class in the near future and also have some other interesting ideas in the works. I plan to go back out and check out the rest of their gardens/animals in the next month or so, so stay tuned. Check out the newbie farmers cool blog: http://WWW.aboutanacre.com
